Hello! I'm Katie Nance, and I'm a software developer with 6 years of experience throughout the stack and beyond it. I'm passionate about building things, learning new technologies, and helping others learn to code.
My love for all things tech started when I was a kid, doing nerdy stuff like making websites on Geocities, reading up on different computer viruses for fun, and tinkering with my computer. But my career as a full stack software developer started shortly after I graduated from Colorado State University in 2018. I already had 4 years of IT and internal tool development experience under my belt from my part time college job, and I was ready to take on the world of software development.
I started my career as a backend developer, working with Python and AWS to ingest, process, and serve geospatial data via a RESTful API. I wrote libraries to create Python microservices with ease and managed many devops tasks like setting up resources we needed in AWS. I then transitioned to a more full stack leaning role, where I started adding features to our internal React web-based tools and building out new ones. Shortly after, I became a fully full stack dev when I joined a small team to build out new features for a React web app that helped match prospective students with college degrees and potential careers.
Most recently, I worked as the sole front end developer at a small startup, where I was responsible for building out the entire front end for a new product, as well as maintaining and adding features to our existing web app product. There, I worked with React (new product), Vue (existing product), and Node to build out the front end, and I also maintained the CI/CD pipeline and managed the deployment process via Github Actions.
I just leveled up to Senior Software Engineer at a new company, where I will be working on the company's web SDK and building out new features for our customers. I'm really excited for this new role, especially because I'll be getting to work directly with browser features and APIs that I've never fully worked with before, while still getting to apply my full stack knowledge to the problems at hand as well. The future is lookin' bright!
When I'm not coding, you can find me doing anything and everything creative, like drawing on my iPad, singing, listening to music, or playing guitar. I also love to read, play video games, and go for walks with my dog, Maxine. I'm currently based in Colorado, but I will be moving to Oregon very soon, and I'm always looking for new friends and connections in the tech community.
